No. Due to the extended time and care we give to each patient, we have decided not to contract with insurance companies. Full payment is expected at the end of each visit.
The quality of your health care is limited and dictated by insurance companies. By not getting into contracts with insurance companies, we can completely control the type and quality of care that each patient needs. Insurance companies discourage taking time to listen and understand the complexity of the issues each patient has. They are also extremely selective about what clinical activities are covered.
More Comprehensive, Individualized
Healthcare is not “one size fits all.” Each child is different and not having to work under the confinement of insurance, we are able to provide more comprehensive testing, take more time with patients, and individualize our approach. We can provide high-quality healthcare tailored to the needs of your child.
Our Patients See Better Health Outcomes
More time with the patient allows us to get to know your child better. With in-depth testing and no limitations on the type of testing or time, more treatment options are available. We are able to combine the best of both Western and Alternative medicine to produce better results.
We will provide you with an itemized superbill that will include appropriate diagnostic (ICD) and treatment (CPT) codes that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement after you have made payment to our office. Many insurers provide reimbursements for an “out-of-network” provider but this will vary depending on your specific plan. If you have a PPO insurance plan and have met your deductible, it is likely that a large percentage of the charges will be reimbursed to you at the out-of-network rate. You can usually obtain claim submission forms on the website of your insurance carrier. In addition, services may be applied towards qualified medical expenses if you have a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) through your employer or Health Savings Account (HSA).
In addition to her consulting practice, Dr. Ruiz is skilled in treating acute medical conditions and can serve as your child’s primary care physician using Integrative Medicine modalities.
Lab work obtained through regular labs (LabCorp or Quest) should be done at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled appointment. Specialty lab tests should be completed at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment.
If you have a PPO, tests that are ordered from conventional labs such as Quest, LabCorp, or West Pacific should be covered at your contracted rate. For specialized laboratories, fees are paid by the patient directly. The costs of these tests vary and Dr. Ruiz exercises her best medical judgment when ordering testing to keep costs as low as possible.
We offer a Vaccination Schedule customized to your child's needs to meet CDC/AAP requirements.
We don’t carry vaccines in the office. Since they are a covered benefit under your insurance plan and Dr. Ruiz is an out-of-network provider, you will be able to receive your immunizations through an in-network provider or a CVS Minute Clinic.
We request that all non-urgent telephone calls during business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm) be limited to brief matters that cannot wait until your next appointment, and would be better served with a scheduled in-office appointment. If it takes you more than a couple of minutes to compose your message, it is likely best for you to schedule an appointment to discuss these matters with Dr. Ruiz.
Dialing the extension 3506 is necessary or we won't receive your message.
Common situations that do not need an appointment include:
This applies to the Patient Portal communications as well.
Dr. Ruiz offers remote consultations through video conferencing, however she prefers that the first appointment be in-person.
A 30 minute acupuncture session is $150. The first visit will require a 30 minute consult, $250, prior to the session to understand medical history and the specific issues, if any, that need to be addressed.
Our on-line forms need to be filled out prior to making an appointment. Please send us an email message (info@donnaruizmd.com) indicating the age of the patient and which type of care is desired: Well-care, Vaccination Consultation or are there any chronic, on-going issues that need to be addressed.
